We started Aro for our own families and we want to help yours.

It’s no secret that screen time is one of the biggest issues facing families today. And we’re not just talking about the kids! Joey and I both struggle with this amazing, captivating, infinitely-powerful tool that we call a smartphone.

We knew something had to change. We wanted to be better for our families and we wanted our families to be better.

So we created Aro. Aro leverages the science of habit formation and motivational design to ensure parents and kids don’t miss out on what’s most important by helping reclaim time spent on their phones.

We've seen the benefits in our own families, and now we want you to experience Aro in yours.

Sincerely,
Heath Wilson & Joey Odom

About
Lex

My name is Lex Daddio, and I live in Richmond, VA with my husband, Thomas, and our three little boys. Together, Thomas and I run our Instagram account @daddioskitchen, where we share family-friendly recipes to inspire others to cook more at home! We believe that food tastes better at home and it's overall better for you. Thomas does the cooking, and I do the baking! We're also opening a food trailer in a couple of months called Cream + Sugar, where we will have baked goods and coffee!

Q&A with
Lex

Do you have a moment when you realized your phone was getting in the way of what’s important to you?

Yes, now that my kids are old enough to say something, it's made a huge difference. One time, my oldest told me I'm always on my phone, and that struck a chord for me. It really made me realize they are watching my every move, and it matters. Thomas and I work on our phones, and we both work from home, so we're always working at odd hours of the day. It can feel overwhelming to find a balance with that, but I realized when I was working, I'd get distracted by other things and be on my phone way longer than I need to be. My family is what matters most to me, and if I'm not being present, making eye contact, and giving them enough of my attention, then they won't want to give it back to me.

How would you explain Aro to someone who doesn’t know it?

It's a beautiful box that you put your phone in to have a solid boundary with your phone. It also adds up the time, so it's fun to hit your daily goal and feel like you accomplished something that's actually good!

If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be?

My grandpa. He was so loved by everyone and a lot like my dad, but he died when I was 7, so I don't really remember him. But I'd love to sit down with him and just have the chance to get to know him!

What’s your favorite book?

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers; I've read it 5 times.

What's your favorite thing to make in the kitchen?

I love to bake more than anything! I love making my chocolate chip cookies; it's our family favorite and what I'm known for!
