We started Aro for our own families and we want to help yours.

It’s no secret that screen time is one of the biggest issues facing families today. And we’re not just talking about the kids! Joey and I both struggle with this amazing, captivating, infinitely-powerful tool that we call a smartphone.

We knew something had to change. We wanted to be better for our families and we wanted our families to be better.

So we created Aro. Aro leverages the science of habit formation and motivational design to ensure parents and kids don’t miss out on what’s most important by helping reclaim time spent on their phones.

We've seen the benefits in our own families, and now we want you to experience Aro in yours.

Hey, I'm Ben! My wife Carly and I have been married for 14 years and share the joy of raising our four kids, ages 12 down to 6. We are an extremely tight-knit family, fighting for more presence every day.

Q&A with

Do you have a moment when you realized your phone was getting in the way of what’s important to you?

I’ve known it for a while, but the other day my daughter said, “All you do is look at your phone,” and it absolutely crushed me.

What attracted you to Aro?

I’m a big Justin Whitmel Earley fan and follow much of his content, so that’s how I first came across it. We've done “phone boxes” with friends or family in the past at gatherings, and Aro seems like a great way to turn that into an everyday habit.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever received?

To find a way to consciously “check in” and be present when you get home from work to see your kids. They are so ready to see me now, and I've got to spend this time with them as intentionally as possible while they are here and wanting that time with me.

What’s your favorite book?

What are some of your favorite activities to do when you put down your phone?

Games with the kids, walking/running/sports, music, cooking, reading.
